2 Days - 1 Night Trail Of The Snub-Nosed Monkeys

Tour Details

Tour Information

Tùng Bá holds one of Ha Giang’s last primary forests — where no tourist has ever set foot. This 2-day expedition takes you into the buffer zone habitat of the Tonkin Snub-nosed Monkey through ancient limestone forest, hidden valleys, and an undisturbed ecosystem.

Day 1: trek from a Dao village through pine forest, banana groves — the monkey’s primary habitat — deep into the conservation core to milestone A500. Overnight at the Forest Ranger Station. Day 2: return to the habitat zone at dawn — the best time for primate observation — then trek down via an alternate route. Local forest rangers guide the entire journey.

Night 1 — Tùng Bá Forest Ranger Station

A forest patrol outpost deep inside the conservation zone. Wooden floor, roof, stream water. No electricity, no hot water, no beds. Guests use sleeping bags or blankets provided by TVPalm. This is where rangers stay during patrols — not a tourism facility.

Meals

• Breakfast Day 1: At a Dao family home in Tùng Bá. Sticky rice, eggs, local vegetables.
• Lunch Day 1: Zero-waste picnic at milestone A500 under ancient ironwood trees.
• Dinner Day 1: At the Ranger Station. Locally sourced food, cooked on site.
• Lunch Day 2: Picnic at a forest rest point or Dao village on descent.

All meals locally sourced. No imported ingredients. Dietary requirements (vegetarian, allergies) accommodated — inform TVPalm at booking.

Day-by-Day Snapshot

Day 1 — Into Tùng Bá’s Primary Forest

06:00 Depart from Hà Giang city / TVPalm Ecolodge. Transfer by motorbike or car to Tùng Bá.

07:00 Arrive Tùng Bá. Breakfast at a Dao family home, brief cultural exchange.

07:30 Begin trekking. Cross shallow streams, ascend limestone hills. Sunrise mist hangs over the valley.

3 km — Difficulty 4/10

09:00 Short rest at forest hut. Continue climbing fern-covered slopes toward banana groves — prime habitat where the Snub-nosed Monkey occasionally forages.

1 km — Difficulty 5/10

10:30 Reach milestone A500 — gateway to the primary forest. Zero-waste picnic lunch under ancient ironwood canopy.

13:00 Penetrate deep into the conservation core. Navigate limestone terrain, observe the ecosystem: rare orchids, tree ferns, primate traces in the canopy. Ranger shares real conservation knowledge.

5 km — Difficulty 7/10 — steep, slippery rock, hard-soled trekking boots required

16:00 Return to Ranger Station. Rest, herbal tea, watch sunset over the forest canopy.

19:00 Locally sourced dinner at the station. Evening conversation with the ranger about the reality of Snub-nosed Monkey conservation and Tùng Bá’s forest. Overnight.

Day 2 — Deeper Into the Forest & Return

06:30 Early rise. Quiet approach back to the banana groves — best time to observe early-morning primate activity. Watch in silence, no disturbance.

08:00 Light breakfast at the station. Continue trekking via alternate ridge route, past milestone A500 in a different direction.

4 km — Difficulty 6/10

12:00 Lunch at forest rest point or Dao village. If weather permits, join light conservation work (trap removal, wildlife tracking).

14:00 Trek down to the village. If sunny — swim in the crystal-clear stream. If cool — ginger tea under the ancient banyan tree.

3 km — Difficulty 5/10

16:30 Transfer to TVPalm Ecolodge or hotel in Hà Giang city.
