Ha Giang rewards a rider who can look around, but its roads are steep, narrow and unforgiving. That is why TVPalm runs Easy Rider tours only: you ride as a pillion passenger behind a local guide, and we do not sell, rent or encourage self-drive trips.
What an Easy Rider tour means
An Easy Rider is a local guide who drives the motorbike while you ride behind as a passenger. The route and landmarks are the same as on any Ha Giang Loop, but the guide handles the road, the vehicle, the checkpoints and the language, so you can concentrate on the landscape and the people.
TVPalm offers Easy Rider tours and nothing else, because it is the safest and most rewarding way to see the Loop.

Legal requirements: why a passenger has none
Riding a motorbike in Vietnam legally requires a Vietnamese-recognised licence, and many visitors do not hold one. Riding without it can mean:
- You are legally riding without a licence under Vietnamese traffic law.
- Your travel insurance may refuse to pay for any accident, injury or liability.
- Police checkpoints on the Ha Giang roads check the documents of foreign riders.
As an Easy Rider passenger, none of this applies to you. The guide’s Vietnamese licence covers the vehicle, and you only need your passport.
Who should choose an Easy Rider
An Easy Rider tour is the right choice for almost every visitor, in particular:
- Travellers who have not ridden steep mountain passes with hairpin bends.
- Travellers who want to photograph freely while moving, with both hands free for the camera.
- Solo travellers who want local interpretation and village access that a language barrier would otherwise block.
- Anyone who prefers to enjoy the scenery rather than watch the road.
