There is no camping on Mount Tay Con Linh (2,428 m), and TVPalm does not run camping trips there. On the 3-day trek you sleep in a private room at TVPalm Ecolodge on Night 1 and in a Dao Ao Dai stilt homestay in Xa Phin, at about 920 m, on Night 2.
Where you sleep on a Tay Con Linh trek
| Night | Where you sleep | Elevation | What to expect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Night 1 (3-day trek) | TVPalm Ecolodge, Phuong Do | Valley floor | Private room, hot water, farm-to-table dinner |
| Night 2 (3-day trek) | Dao Ao Dai moss-roofed stilt homestay, Xa Phin | About 920 m | Clean bedding, mosquito nets, hot water, herbal footbath |
| Night 1 (2-day trek) | Dao Ao Dai stilt homestay, Xa Phin | About 920 m | Same homestay, summit the next day |
| Forest Ranger hut | Short stop only, no overnight stays | 1,800 m | A brief rest on the way to the summit |
Why there is no camping on the mountain
The Forest Ranger hut at 1,800 m is where the Easy Rider ride ends (leaving the Xa Phin homestay at 06:00, about 1.5 hours) and the summit climb begins. It is a short stop only and cannot be used for overnight stays. For this reason no TVPalm program includes camping, and we do not recommend it.
Instead, the trek is built around the villages. You walk through the Dao Ao Dai villages of Khuoi My, Lung Vai, Na Mau and Xa Phin, sleep under a roof in Xa Phin, and climb the last 600 m or so to the summit the next day with an Easy Rider ride to the ranger hut first.
What the Xa Phin homestay is like
Xa Phin lies at about 920 m in Thanh Thuy commune, around 22 km from Ha Giang City. The Dao Ao Dai families here live in wooden stilt houses, and their roofs are covered in moss. A roof needs more than 20 years before moss grows thick enough to cover it, so each house is a small piece of living history.
- Bedding: clean mattresses, blankets and mosquito nets are provided.
- Food: a home-cooked dinner prepared with local ingredients.
- Comfort: hot water for showers and a traditional herbal footbath after the walk.
- Climate: evenings are cool at this altitude, so bring a warm layer.
What to pack for the nights
You do not need a tent, a sleeping bag or a sleeping mat. Pack light for the evenings:
- A warm layer such as a fleece for cool evenings.
- A headlamp with spare batteries for early starts and late descents.
- Dry clothes for the evening, kept in a waterproof bag.
- Travel insurance that covers trekking and evacuation.
