Many travellers cross Ha Giang in three days. This page is for the ones who would rather stay.
Khuoi My is a Dao village on the slope of Tay Con Linh, 10 km from Ha Giang city. The lodge has 10 rooms, a garden of almost two hectares, a pool fed by a mountain spring and a kitchen that cooks from the garden. You can stay four nights, a week, two weeks or a month.
Why stay longer
A short trip lets you look. A longer stay lets you notice: what is in flower this month, which path leads down to the stream, when the cloud settles in the valley, what the kitchen cooks when the season turns.
You do not need a plan for every day. Most of the value of a long stay is in the days with no plan.

- want a town with cafes, a gym and a supermarket next door
- need air conditioning. There is none. The air is cool.
- want a hotel with a front desk open all night
- expect polished, fast service. Our team is local and still learning, and we ask for your patience
A day here
Breakfast is from 07:00 to 09:00. Much of what is on the table was picked here, because about 80% of our food goes from garden to table. After breakfast nothing is required of you.
Mornings are for walking. Go down through the village, follow the path to the stream, or take a longer route with a guide. Back at the lodge, the pool is open from 07:00 to 19:00. It is fed by a spring at 1,250 m and uses no chlorine or chemicals.
Lunch is from 12:00 to 13:30. The afternoon is for reading in the stilt house, sitting in the garden, or working. Dinner is from 19:00 to 21:00 in the restaurant, by the fire when it is cold. The menu follows the season and uses local food: black pig, village chicken, river fish and wild greens.
Quiet hours begin at 22:00. Some days you will take a long walk or ride. Most days you will not. That is the point.
One way to spend a week
Days 1 and 2. Do very little. Walk to the village and back. Learn where the afternoon light falls.
Days 3 to 5. Choose one outing: the tea hills of Na Thac, Lung Vai weir and waterfall, or a longer day walk. Come back to the pool and dinner.
Days 6 and 7. Work in the morning if you need to. Spend the afternoon in the garden. Ask the kitchen what is in season.
This is a suggestion, not a programme. A month is the same, only slower.
Working from here
You can work online from the lodge. The Wi-Fi is good in the bar, the restaurant, the stilt house and in most rooms. A few rooms deepest inside the property are weaker, and we are upgrading the network. Tell us when you book that you work online, and we will give you the best room for it.
A few things that help:
- Mobile signal: Viettel is very stable at the lodge. Vinaphone and Mobifone are weaker. A Viettel SIM or eSIM is a good backup for calls.
- Time: Vietnam is 5 to 6 hours ahead of central Europe, depending on the season. A morning call in Europe is your afternoon here. A late-evening call from the US is your morning.
- Power: 220 V. Round and flat plugs both fit our sockets.
- Quiet: the bar plays no loud music, and quiet hours run from 22:00 to 06:00.
We do not quote a speed in megabits. If your work depends on one, write to us before you book and we will answer honestly.

- One guest: the discount is 10% in low season and 4% in high season, at every length of stay.
- Children 0 to 5 stay free when they share their parents’ bed, up to 2 per room. Children 6 to 11 pay 150,000 VND per night for dinner. From 12, children count as adults.
- Peak dates, such as Tet and public holiday weeks, are not part of these stays. Ask us.
- To hold a room: a 50% deposit by Wise, Revolut or bank transfer, in any currency. The deposit is refunded in full if you cancel 14 days or more before arrival. The weeks change with the seasons
You will see a different valley in a different month. The full calendar is in Good to Know. In short:
- Late October to early November: buckwheat flowers
- Late December to early January: mustard flowers
- Close to Tet to March: peach blossom
- April to June: hydrangea, white Bauhinia, pink cassia
- August to October: rice. Harvest is finished by early October, and later in the late villages

Getting out
A week here often has one or two outings, because the area is good for it. Some we run from the lodge:
- A day walk through Khuoi My, Lung Vai and Ha Thanh waterfall
- Xa Phin, with Huou waterfall
- The Shan Tuyet tea hills of Na Thac
- Lung Vai weir and waterfall
Lengths and prices are on the tour pages. If you stay a week or more, we can spread them over your days so that no day is rushed. We do not rent motorbikes, but we can point you to a rental shop in Ha Giang.
Who you stay with
About 70% of our team are local people, mostly Dao. Not everyone had worked in tourism before. We train step by step instead of hiring people from elsewhere, so service can be slower than you are used to.
Each month local workers look after the gardens, and local villagers supply food under clear agreements. We are building the Tay Con Linh Sustainable Tourism Cooperative with 50 Dao members, which supports homestays in the village and the planting of precious timber trees.
We run regular training for young local people in sustainable tourism and foreign languages. If you stay long, you will meet them.

Hot water in every room. Filtered drinking water is free. Wi-Fi is in the shared areas; the signal in the rooms is uneven. Need a meal outside these hours? Tell reception and we try.
Getting to the lodge
- Hanoi to Ha Giang city: about 6 hours by road. Limousine bus by day, sleeper bus at night, or a private car. There is no airport and no train in Ha Giang.
- Ha Giang city to the lodge: 10 km, about 25 minutes. A Green SM taxi costs about 110,000 to 150,000 VND (4 to 6 USD). Send us your arrival time and we book it for you.
- At the lodge: free private parking at the foot of the property, a secure spot for motorbikes, and an electric shuttle for your luggage. Check-in from 14:00, check-out at 12:00. We receive guests until 22:30.

Booking and payment
We have ten rooms. We hold a room only once the deposit has arrived.
- Write to us on WhatsApp or at info@tvpalm.com: your dates, how many of you, and what you plan to do here.
- We confirm the room and the price, and send the transfer details.
- Pay a 50% deposit by Wise, Revolut or bank transfer, in any currency. We hold the room for 24 hours from our quote. If the deposit has not arrived by then, the room goes back on sale.
- Pay the other 50% at the lodge, by card or in cash.
Prices are in US dollars with 10% VAT included, at about 26,000 VND to the dollar. A VAT invoice is on request.
If your plans change: cancel 14 days or more before arrival and the deposit is refunded in full. Later than that, it is not refunded, but you can change your dates once if you tell us at least 72 hours before and a room is free. Landslide, flood, storm or a road closed by the authorities, on our road or on yours: we change your dates free of charge, valid for 12 months, or refund your deposit in full. - Staying before or after the Loop. Some came before, some after, some both. One guest stayed three nights and wished for longer.
Not everything is perfect. One Tripadvisor guest gave 4 out of 5 and questioned the value of the tours booked through us. We read it.
Before you book, the honest part
Wi-Fi
It is good where you will use it. A few rooms deepest inside the property are weaker, and we are upgrading the network. If you work online, tell us before you book and we will choose your room. We have not measured the speed, so we do not quote one.
Mobile signal
Viettel is very stable at the lodge. Vinaphone and Mobifone are weaker.
Winter is cold
Some days fall below 10 degrees. There is no air conditioning and no central heating. The rooms have heated mattress pads and the restaurant has a fireplace. Bring warm layers. The pool stays open, but in winter the water is very cold.
We are a village, not a town
Ha Giang city, with ATMs and shops, is 10 km away. Bring cash before you come up, because ATMs can be empty or offline.
No overnight reception
The latest arrival is 22:30. The reception is not staffed overnight, so tell us before you come.
Service is local and still learning
About 70% of the team come from the village. Some had not worked in tourism before. Things can be slower than you expect, and we ask for your patience.
Rain
Heavy rain can cause landslides on the roads in summer. Check the road before you travel and message us. We will tell you what we know.

Planning your stay
What is the shortest and the longest stay?
The shortest package is the 4-night Retreat. The longest is 28 nights. If you want longer, write to us, and check your visa first. To extend once you are here, tell us as soon as you decide. If the lodge is full we cannot promise it.
Which room will I get?
The lodge has 10 rooms: 4 Double Mountain View, 1 Double Garden View, 2 Twin on the ground floor, 1 Standard Family and 2 Deluxe Family. Eight rooms have a private bathroom just outside the room, with its own key, never shared. The two Deluxe Family rooms have a bathroom inside. The Twin and Deluxe Family rooms are on the ground floor, with no stairs. Tell us what matters to you (view, no stairs, a quiet corner, strong Wi-Fi) and we will assign the best room that is free.
What is the best time to come?
Every month is different. Late October and November bring buckwheat flowers, December and January mustard flowers, February and March peach blossom, April to June hydrangeas, and August to October the rice. The sea of clouds comes from July to December. Winter is cold, summer is wet. See Good to Know for the calendar.
Working and connection
Is the Wi-Fi good enough to work?

What if the Wi-Fi fails during a call?
Viettel mobile signal is very stable at the lodge, so a Viettel SIM or eSIM is a good backup. Bring it from Ha Giang city if you did not buy one at the airport.
What is the time difference?
Vietnam does not change its clocks. It is 6 hours ahead of Paris and Berlin in winter, and 5 hours ahead in summer. Eastern US time is 11 to 12 hours behind Vietnam.
Food and daily life
What is the food like?
The menu follows the seasons and uses local ingredients: black pig, village chicken, river fish and a wide range of vegetables. About 80% of what we serve goes from our garden to your table, grown organically. Meals are served at The Palm Restaurant: breakfast 07:00 to 09:00, lunch 12:00 to 13:30, dinner 19:00 to 21:00.
Can you cook for vegetarians, vegans or other diets?
Yes, at no extra charge. Tell us when you book. Outside food is not allowed in the restaurant.
Is the water safe to drink?
Purified drinking water is free and served in reusable glass bottles.
Can I do laundry?
Yes. We wash and dry clothes for 60,000 VND per kg. We do not iron. On a long stay, give us your laundry weekly.
Are pets and smoking allowed?
Pets are welcome, and owners are fully responsible for them. We do not offer pet care. Smoking is allowed only in the outdoor bar area.
Getting here
How do I get here from Hanoi?
It takes about 6 hours by road. Limousine buses cost about 500,000 to 700,000 VND, sleeper buses from My Dinh or Giap Bat about 250,000 to 400,000 VND, and a private car about 3.5 to 4.5 million VND. Prices change, so ask us for the current ones. We do not name bus companies on the website. Write to us and we will help.
And from Ha Giang city?
The lodge is 10 km from Ha Giang bus station, about 25 minutes. A Green SM taxi costs about 110,000 to 150,000 VND. There is private parking at the foot of the lodge, and an electric cart takes guests and luggage up. The latest arrival is 22:30.
Can I ride the Ha Giang Loop and come back?
Yes. We can store your luggage. Tell us your dates and we will plan check-in around them.
Money and paperwork
How do I pay?
A 50% deposit holds your room, by Wise, Revolut or bank transfer, in any currency. We hold the room for 24 hours from our quote. You pay the other 50% at the lodge, by card or in cash. If you cancel 14 days or more before arrival, the deposit is refunded in full. Prices include 10% VAT, and a VAT invoice is available on request.
Where is the nearest ATM?
In Ha Giang city, 10 km away. ATMs can be empty or offline, so bring cash before you come up.
Do I need a visa?
Many Western passports allow a visa-free stay of up to 45 days, and an e-visa can run to 90 days. Rules change, so check the official site for your passport before you fly: evisa.gov.vn. By law the lodge registers each foreign guest with the local police. Bring your passport to check-in. We handle the rest.
Should I buy travel insurance?
We recommend it, with cover for walking in the mountains if you plan to trek.
Families
Can children stay?
Yes. Children 0 to 5 stay free when they share their parents’ bed, up to 2 per room. Children 6 to 11 pay 150,000 VND per night for dinner. From 12, the adult rate applies. The pool has no lifeguard and the stream is close, so children must always be with an adult.
