Several companies run this route every day. We do not recommend one brand over another here, because quality changes from bus to bus and from season to season. What matters more is the type of bus you choose.
Standard sleeper bus
An open coach with two levels of bunk beds. It is the cheapest and most common option. Fine for backpackers who sleep easily, but taller travellers may find the berths short.
Limousine van
A smaller van with individual reclining seats. It is usually quicker and quieter, and a good choice for a daytime trip. You sit; you do not lie down.
Cabin or pod bus
Each passenger has a private compartment with a curtain or sliding door, and some buses also have double cabins for couples. It is the most comfortable option for an overnight trip, and the most expensive.

My Dinh is the main northwest-facing bus terminal in Hanoi and the official hub for most Ha Giang-bound departures.

Old Quarter pickup
Many bus companies run direct pickups from the Old Quarter area, so you do not need to travel to My Dinh.
