This 2-day trekking tour takes you to the summit of Tây Côn Lĩnh, the highest peak in Northeast Vietnam. Departing from TVPalm Ecolodge, the journey leads through dense forest, small streams, and mountain trails with experienced local guides from the area.

Beyond the physical challenge of reaching the summit, the tour offers time to experience the daily life and culture of the Dao people who live on these mountains. With fewer crowds and a slower pace, it is a chance to connect with both the landscape and the local community in a meaningful way.

Tay Con Linh – The Highest Peak in Northeast Vietnam

Tây Côn Lĩnh stands at 2,427 meters, making it the highest mountain in Northeast Vietnam. The area remains largely untouched and receives few visitors. On this 2-day trek, you will pass through old-growth forests, ancient tea trees, and misty mountain trails, with the possibility of witnessing a sea of clouds at the summit.

Local Life and Culture

Tây Côn Lĩnh holds deep significance for the Dao people who live on its slopes. The mountain is closely tied to their traditions, farming practices, and way of life. During the trek, you will have the opportunity to learn about their connection to the land and experience a quieter side of mountain life.

A Grounded Nature Experience

This trek is as much about the journey as it is about reaching the summit. Along the way, you will walk through tea forests and mountain vegetation that change with the seasons. The quiet trails and fresh air offer a genuine sense of being in nature, away from crowds and commercial tourism.

  • Tây Côn Lĩnh Summit
Reach the highest peak in Northeast Vietnam at 2,427 meters. The trail passes through quiet, rarely visited mountain terrain.
  • Local Dao Guides
Hike with guides from the Tày Côn Lĩnh Sustainable Ecotourism Cooperative — local Dao people who know the forest trails and share knowledge passed down through generations.
  • Old-Growth Forests & Tea Groves
Walk through primary forests and century-old Snow Shan tea trees that have been part of the landscape for a long time.
  • Dao Homestay Experience
Spend one night at a Dao homestay in Áo Dài village, including dinner prepared with ingredients from local farms.
  • Responsible Travel
The tour follows a strict no single-use plastic policy. A portion of the revenue supports reforestation efforts and community training programs in the area.

This 2-day Tay Con Linh trek is a physically demanding journey that combines motorbike travel on forest trails and hiking to the summit at 2,427 meters. It is best suited for people who:

    • Have good physical fitness and are comfortable with long days of activity (approximately 6–8 hours total on Day 2, including both riding and trekking).
    • Enjoy remote mountain experiences and are interested in the culture of the Dao community.
    • Are prepared for variable weather and rugged terrain.

This tour may not be suitable for:

    • Travelers with knee, heart, or respiratory conditions, due to the elevation and the combination of riding and hiking.
    • Children under 14 years old. The long duration and physical demands of Day 2 (motorbike ride on trails + 3-hour ascent and descent) can be challenging for younger children.
    • Those who prefer shorter, less strenuous activities or expect high levels of comfort throughout the trip.

If you are traveling with children or have any concerns about the difficulty level, we recommend contacting us directly. Our team can provide more detailed information and help assess whether this tour is a good fit for your group.

  • Gear up and receive a safety briefing before hitting the road. (If you already in Ha Giang city, our easy rider will pick you up to the TVPalm Ecolodge)
  • Conquer the winding Pac Sum Pass
  • Reach Heaven Gate (Quan Ba), take photos of the famous Twin Mountains
  • Savor a delicious lunch in Yen Minh Town featuring local organic ingredients.
  • Tackle the legendary Tham Ma Pass (9-Turn Pass), a photographer’s favorite and a true test for riders.
  • Explore the Hmong King’s Palace (Vuong Mansion) in Sa Phin.
  • Check into your private room in Dong Van Town and freshen up.
  •  Spend your evening exploring the Dong Van Old Quarter or enjoying a coffee at “Café Phố Cổ.”

Spotlight: Conquering the legendary Tham Ma Pass. This zig-zagging masterpiece of mountain engineering offers the most iconic photo opportunity in Northern Vietnam

  • Ride along the Happiness Road toward Ma Pi Leng Pass. At 2,000m elevation, this is the most majestic part of the Loop.
  • Continue along the secretive and scenic M-Road, bypassing the main routes to reveal untouched landscapes and vibrant tribal life.
  •  Lunch in Yen Minh. Refuel in a quiet town surrounded by pine forests and rice fields.
  •  Ride back through Quan Ba, passing the familiar mountain silhouettes and rural life scenes, before descending into Ha Giang city.
  • 17:00 – Arriving back in Ha Giang City. Return to TVPalm Ecolodge to shower, relax, and store your gear.
  • 19:00 – 21:00: Depending on your schedule, board your luxury sleeper bus for the return journey to Hanoi.

Spotlight: Standing atop the 2,000m-high Ma Pi Leng Pass. Gaze down at the turquoise Nho Que River carving through Tu San Canyon—the deepest canyon in Southeast Asia.

      • Accommodation: Overnight at a local Dao homestay in Xà Phìn village. Rooms are basic with shared sleeping areas divided by simple partitions. Bathroom and toilet facilities are shared.
      • Meals: All meals are prepared by local families and porters using ingredients from the surrounding area.
        • Breakfast: Served at the homestay.
        • Lunch: Simple local meals during the trek.
        • Dinner: Home-cooked meals at the homestay with the host family.

This tour offers an authentic and rustic experience. Facilities are basic, and the focus is on staying close to local life rather than on comfort or luxury.
